Mass Media in Contemporary Society
This course aims to help the student understand the role of mass media in our society. The course will look into media messages, media ethics, media regulation, media industry, and new media technologies as well as the history of mass media. Students will further understand the social, cultural, political and economic impacts of media and various contemporary issues in the mass-mediated society.

 
     

Speech & Presentation
This course focuses on the development of verbal and non-verbal skills in public speaking and group communication. Students will learn how to prepare and deliver an effective oral presentation especially as an organizational member.

 
     

Logic & Critical Thinking
This course will introduce the fundamentals of critical thinking and reasoning. Critical reasoning is a set of skills that involves the analysis of arguments. In this class, students will learn how to both create and evaluate arguments. The areas of inductive and deductive reasoning will be investigated with an emphasis on everyday usage.

 
     

Introduction to Contemporary Korean Literature
This course offers an introduction to contemporary Korean literature in a variety of genres such as short stories, novels, essays, poetry and plays. In so doing, this course builds appreation and understanding of fictional and imaginative works in the last century. Literary works will be evaluated in relation to both their time and to other art forms via class discussions, group project, theater trips with review and individual insights.

 
     
 
 
 
     
 

Communication Theory
This course surveys various kinds of communication theories at individual, organizational, and societal levels, mainly including empirical theories of mass communication effects and critical/cultural perspectives. Major sociological and psychological aspects of human communication will also be discussed.

 
     

Communication Research Methods
This course offers a survey of methods for investigating mass communication processes and effects, including both quantitative and qualitative ones.   Students will learn how to build a theory throughout a scientific research project, from formulating a hypothesis to collect data and to analyzing and interpreting the data.

 
     

History of the Korean Press
This course deals primarily with major developments within the Korean press along with political, econonomic, social, and techological changes in Korean society during the past decades. This course will also review major philosophical, policy, and industrial issues in the contemporary history of Korean journalism.

 
     

Computer Literacy
This course introduces the student to a variety of terms, definitions and concepts that apply to the design and use of microcomputers. This course will also give students "hands on" experience with such programs as Microsoft Office Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Hangul using the latest version of Windows. Classroom instruction, class projects, and lab assignments will be combined for a comprehensive study,

 
     

Creative Thinking & Cultural Industry
This course aims to increase the students' understanding of creativity and improve their creative problem-solving skills and abilities. This course will be composed of lectures of various guest speakers who have successfully built up a creative career in their own fields, especially in the areas of cultural industry. 

 
     

Writing for the Media
This course introduces the student to several forms of writing for the media including feature stories, critical reviews, interviews, advertising and PR, online contents and so on. Theories of Audience
This course offers an introduction to various perspectives on audience. Students will understand how the meaning of the concept of audience has been changed throughout the media history and how intricately audience theories have been intertwined with media effects studies.

 
     

Persuasive Communication
This course introduces a variety of theories of persuasion as a goal-driven, strategic and interactive process. Theories and principles will be applied to the development, analysis, and testing of persuasive messages in a variety of communication contexts.

 
     

Social Research
This course provides an overview of social research methods. Students will understand the necessary tools for the basics of social research methods and apply these concepts to solve social research problems.

 
     

Social Psychology
This course will introduce the student to major approaches, debates, and theories of social psychology. Social Psychology is the branch of psychology which focuses on how people think about, influence, and relate to one another. The class focuses especially on such topics as attitudes and behavior, gender and cultural norms, conformity and obedience, persuasion and group behavior.

 
     

Organizational Communication
This course focuses on organizational theory and the basic properties of organizational communication as a managerial and administrative tool. Particular emphasis will be put on interpersonal and strategic communication and on changes of organizational communication within the information society.

 
     

History of Communication
This course is designed to help students understand the nature and function of communication from a historical perspective. It will provide an overview of the origin and development  of communication process as it relates to the evolution of mass media.

 
     

Media Law & Ethics
This course will introduce students to the study of legal and ethical issues in the media. Students will gain a working knowledge to analyze the important legal and ethical issues involved with the mass media industry in order to develop an expertise in moral reasoning with regard to ethical problem solving in the media.

 
     

Philosophical Thoughts in Journalism
This course is designed to  examine  the history and development of journalism and their relationships to economic, political, and other aspects of Korean society. Specifically, students will learn  how journalistic values have evolved and  how the media influenced society  during different periods of  time.

 
     

Political Communication
This course examines key theories and research in the field of political communication. Specifically, students will explore how the media has played a vital role in the development of political events, along with media effects with particular reference to the ways in which the media shape public opinion.

 
     

Broadcast Programming
This course is designed to help students understand how to evaluate broadcast programming and scheduling  in terms of its potential for success. Specifically, students will learn the ins and outs of programming and scheduling procedures including program development, program testing, and various scheduling strategies.

 
     

News Writing & Reporting
This course is designed to help student understand how journalists gather, write and report news events.  It will cover all aspects of newsroom operation including  writing skills, newsroom gatekeeping, interviewing skills, source selection, story selection criteria, journalism ethics, and specific skills required for journalists.

 
     

Practices in News Reporting
This course is designed to provide a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of news writing and reporting from a practical perspective. It will emphasize gathering of information, reportorial writing, editing and interview techniques.

 
     

Photojournalism
This course provides a general overview of how to make a good journalistic image in terms of content, composition and layout. Specifically, it is designed to bring students to an acceptable level of performance in photographic reporting and editing as required by a professional photo journalist.

 
     

Online Journalism
This course examines the emerging forms of information delivery by the Internet and related convergence of conventional media. Students will gain practical experience in the production of an electronic news and its delivery.

 
     

Book & Magazine Publishing
This course provides a working knowledge of how to use multimedia and communication technologies  to publish information.  Specifically, it will deal with  the recent advances in the field of digital publishing and print production with the advent of media convergence.

As a prerequisite for all advertising and PR courses, this course is designed to help students understand key concepts and theories of marketing and consumer psychology. Specifically, it provides a basic understanding of consumers'' consumption-related behaviors and developing marketing strategies intended to influence those behaviors.

 
     

Principles of Advertising
This course provides a general overview of advertising and promotion in the context of integrated marketing communications. It explores the advertising and promotional process from research to creative, and from production to media placement to evaluation of the effectiveness of the promotional program. 

 
     

Public Relations
This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of   theories and practices of public relations including public opinion research, media relations, issue management and crisis management. From this course, students will learn how to develop effective public communication strategies by writing news releases, conducting surveys, and designing PR campaigns.

An advertisement consists of illustrations and copies. This course aims to provide opportunities to learn how to write effective copies and how to utilize them with illustrations in various forms of advertisements.

This course aims to provide various strategical frameworks in crisis management. Also, it aims to provide  various academic and theoretical tools used in the conflict resolution and negotiation by providing detailed case studies in PR. Web Editing
This course is designed to be a hands-on, step-by-step, user-friendly course to create and edit a web page. Students will learn how to insert and organize text, graphics, and pictures, as well as edit and update web pages.

The purpose of this class is to study various practices in speech writing. First, it overviews the history of speech writing and speech writers. Argumentation Skills and Practice
This course offers students with argumentation practices including analysis, research and evidence, case construction, refutation. Topics such as discursive and visual argument provides students with knowledge of advocacy including law, politics, organizations, interpersonal relations.

 
     

Understanding Public Speech
This course offers students with experience in preparation and delivery of speeches within a public setting and group discussion. Emphasis is placed on theory, research, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of informative, persuasive, and special occasion public speaking.

 
     

Planning Visual Contents
This course deals with conceptualization, design, planning, producing, directing, shooting, editing, and evaluation of video programs. Students are required to perform proposal development, team building, project management and workflow methods, production techniques and evaluative methods in the creation of media projects.

 
     

Video Production I
This is an introductory-level television producing and directing course. It deals with preparation and treatment of form and content; procedures, problems, and practice in producing and directing television materials. Students are required to work in small production teams for planning, executing, and completing the final projects.

 
     

Video Production ¥±
This is an intermediate-level studio and field production course for visual media. Additional topics include social responsibility and ethical framework involving production; advanced analysis, methods, and techniques of television production; procedures, problem-solving, and practice.

 
     

Criticism in Visual Communication
This course deals with methods and functions of criticism in forms of visual communication. Topics include historical-contextual, textual, and interpretive procedures; diverse theoretical approaches including formalism, dramatism, genre, and ideology to visual communication.

 
     

Non-Linear Editing
This course offers students with editing principles and skills with hands-on opportunities. It gives access to digital production by AVID editing system; and experience of various editing techniques such as visual transition, motion effects, and color correction.

 
     

Video Journalism
This course places emphasis on skills necessary for single-person broadcast production in news and documentary, including writing, editing, reporting, and production. Ethical problems, research, interviewing, legal issues, economics, and aesthetics are also discussed.

 
     

Web-based Video Production
This course deals with fundamental characteristics, components, standards and applications of information networks and services in web-based broadcasting. It also examines fundamentals of the Internet, network technologies, design concepts. and services from a management perspective.

 
     

Web Design & Planning
This course examines practical aspects of multimedia design in the Internet to improve skills to produce cross-browser compatible website designs and styles using the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and other computer languages.

 
     

Computer Graphics
This course offers students with the hardware and software principles of interactive graphics. Topics include introduction to the basic concepts, 2-D and 3-D modeling and transformations, viewing transformations, projections, rendering techniques, graphical software packages and graphics systems.

 
     

Interface Design
This course deals with design, implementation, and evaluation of human-computer interfaces, with emphasis on user-centered design and graphical user interfaces (GUI). It also examines the importance and necessity of effective user interface design; and presentation of current design approaches and tools.

 
     

Web Programming
This course offers students with tools and techniques in building compliant web pages, such as methods of XHTML (Extensible Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). Students perform programming practices with the use of Javascript and ECMAScript to create dynamic effects as well as with the concepts of client-side scripting using PHP.

 
     

Web Publishing
This course deals with principles and techniques in creating a user-friendly, serviceable website about content, colors, graphics, and site navigation. Topics include site organization and management; site navigation and hierarchies; usability and accessibility; computer graphics, color, and typography; and search engine optimization.
